External Resident, Department of Orthopaedics and Pain Management Service, Royal University Hospital (1984 - 1986)
Following my four-year chiropractic program, I was accepted (one of 2 chiropractors per year) into a 2-year post-graduate Chiropractic Clinical Science residency program. As an External Resident, I mentored under the auspices of staff orthopaedic surgeons. I performed histories, physical examinations and diagnoses on out-patients in various spine and general orthopaedic clinics. I performed similar duties in the Pain Management Service. A typical day consisted of seeing outpatients at the hospital in the morning and treating patients referred by the orthopaedic surgeons and local physicians in the afternoon at a private clinic. Only 40 chiropractors of 7000 in Canada have received this training.
